Capturing the schizophrenia of Reagan’s “Morning in America,”Steve De Jarnatt’s cult classic sets a sweet, technicolor romance (scored by 1980s stalwarts Tangerine Dream), against a backdrop of nuclear paranoia and Los Angeles at night. Oft-compared to Scorsese’s AFTER HOURS, De Jarnatt’s film hums along with the same broken logic and dislocation. Shown for the first time since 1989 in its original aspect ratio and in a newly restored director/DP-approved print.
