Wed October 6

Tonight (Wed, 10/6, 7:30pm, Muenzinger), we have a free screening of THE SOCIAL DILEMMA with director Jeff Orlowski in-person for a Q&A afterwards. THE SOCIAL DILEMMA was nominated for two Emmys and won for OUTSTANDING WRITING IN A NONFICTION PROGRAM. In this day and age, when we're all addicted to the gadgets in our pockets, this is an eye-opening documentary that would be great for the whole family to watch together.

Tomorrow (Thu, 10/7, at 7pm in Fiske Planetarium), we present a free hour-long filmmakers panel. The five directors in question will be Michael Brown, Emilie Upczack, Skinner Meyers, Trent Harris, and Cory McAbee. These filmmakers will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the current state of cinema. While this is a free event, attendance will be capped and it will be a ticketed event. You can get those tickets by visiting the Fiske Planetarium website at: www.colorado.edu/fiske/

Then on Friday (10/8, at 7:30pm, in Muenzinger) there will be a free screening of BEAVER TRILOGY PART IV. This documentary by Brad Besser does a great job of providing an overview of Groovin' Gary, the subject of the original BEAVER TRILOGY, which was directed by Trent Harris (Trent being one of the filmmakers at the Thursday Fiske talk). Trent Harris will be there in-person for the Q&A.

On Saturday (10/9, at 7:30pm, in Muenzinger) more free stuff! This time it's a sneak peak at Cory McAbee's latest project. Rumor has it that yours truly might even have a small walk-on role, but - who knows - maybe I wound up on the cutting room floor. Cory McAbee in-person!

To top off the week, on Sunday, (10/10, at 2pm, in Muenzinger) we we are screening a double-feature of Cory McAbee's THE AMERICAN ASTRONAUT followed by STINGRAY SAM, which is a sequel-of-sorts. Both films are beautiful 35mm archive prints - and yet again - both are free! Also, it should be mentioned, THE AMERICAN ASTRONAUT received its US premiere at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival - that means this will mark its 20th anniversary! Cory McAbee will be there in-person for the Q&A.
