Pray the Devil Back to Hell
Documentary Details Liberian Women's Successful Nonviolence Campaign
Sun February 1
2009, 7:00 only

In 2003, Liberian women --Christians and Muslims alike--organized to end their country's brutal and bloody civil war, a product of Charles Taylor's lethal brand of dictatorship. The women organized sit-ins, demanded cease-fire agreements, and even -- as in the Greek tragedy Lysistrata -- withheld sex from their male partners until the men stopped the fighting. Gini Reticker directs this understated but moving documentary of this successful movement. Women's History Month screening.
