Momma's Man
Director Casts His Parents in a Present-Day Peter Pan Tale
Fri March 13
2009, 7:00 & 9:00

Azazel Jacobs took an unusual approach to his naturalistic feature in casting his own parents, filmmaker Ken and artist Flo Jacobs, as the parents of a new yet reluctant daddy (Matt Boren) who takes a lengthening break from his new family with his parents. Mikey retreats to their real-life and colorfully cluttered New York loft, a womblike environment that is itself another character in the film, to figure out when, how, and if he can resume his own life. In a style that recalls the raw intimacy of Jim Jarmusch, the director drops us back into the lap of a densely storied yet fading way of life in New York.
