Hello, Movie Lovers -
After last week's whirlwind full of visiting guests and special events we take a few days to gather our wits, slow down a bit, and enjoy the music. This week, that music will focus on one of the most famous indie bands of all time; The Velvet Underground. They are the subject of the latest documentary by Todd Haynes, who kickstarted his own career with an inventive short film by the title of SUPERSTAR: THE KAREN CARPENTER STORY back in 1987. Haynes also directed SAFE, FAR FROM HEAVEN, CAROL, and many other great movies. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND had its U.S. premiere at last month's Telluride Film Festival. To quote from the TFF program guide: "Haynes forgoes the standard drugs-and-sex rock biopic, instead emphasizing Reed and Cale's influencers and fearless creativity."
We are screening THE VELVET UNDERGROUND this Sunday (10/17) at 2pm, and then again on Monday (10/18) at 7:30pm. While regular admission applies, we are going to add a couple of incentives to come on out to the IFS to buy a ticket. The first incentive will be that everyone who comes will get a chance to win a signed movie poster by Todd Haynes. The second incentive will be that for all you analog lovers out there we will have a limited number of reissued vinyl albums by The Velvet Underground that we will be selling at below-market cost.
It's also worth mentioning that there are two new and beautiful pedestrian bridges one can access from the bike path that soar above Boulder Creek at leisurely angles before connecting you to the campus. From these bridges, one gets some of the best views to be had of Boulder and the nature adjoining the creek below. With that in mind, we hope that this Sunday or Monday you'll take a walk on the wild side to join us at the IFS.
