Celluloid lovers rejoice!
If you miss the flicker of real film as it bounces from one reel to another with the assist of a projectionist attuned to the cue mark changes in the upper right hand corner to transition from one projector to another, you'll want to make sure to visit us in Muenzinger for any of the following shows which are all on 35mm film:
WEDNESDAY (10/20, 7:30pm) Kurosawa's DRUNKEN ANGEL: B&W film noir. Best of all, the projectionist told me this print looks great. He was not able to bench inspect the others ones, but they come from the same distributor, which is a good sign.
FRIDAY (10/22, 7:30pm) Kurosawa's DODES'KADEN. Kurosawa's first color film. Stan Brakhage introduced me to this film when I was a student in his film history course and this particular title held a special place in his heart.
SATURDAY (10/23, 7:30pm) we shift gears to revisit a classic by Jim Jarmusch: STRANGER THAN PARADISE. Beautiful B&W. John Lurie stars. A true indie and comedic adventure.
SUNDAY (10/24, 2pm afternoon matinee) it's another B&W early film by Jarmusch with John Lurie, this time: DOWN BY LAW. Tom Waits and Roberto Benigni join in on the fun. Shot in Louisiana, the locations are nothing short of mesmerizing and many improvised bits of dialogue are nothing short of genius. Bottom line: fun, beautiful, and poignant.
Film is alive and well at the IFS and we hope to see you in Muenzinger Auditorium soon!
